40th anniversary of the arrival of the Vietnamese, Cambodian and Laotian communities

On June 17, 2015, National Bank and its employees marked the 40th anniversary of the arrival to Canada of the Vietnamese, Cambodian and Laotian “boat people” refugees.

Honorary Chair Karen Leggett, Chief Marketing Officer and Executive Vice President – Corporate Development at National Bank and Chair of National Bank’s diversity committee, presided over the event, which gave some 50 employees from these cultural communities the chance to contribute to a collaborative mural. The artwork should be completed by the end of August.

Diversity is important to National Bank

This motivating activity demonstrates how diversity is an asset to National Bank, and serves as a concrete example of the Bank’s commitment to the diversity of its employees, its clients and the communities it serves.

The event was made possible by the work of Thi Be Nguyen, founder of the organization UniAction and one of National Bank’s Diversity Ambassadors.

The mural will be unveiled during an exhibition and discovery day on Vietnamese history and culture to be held at the Mariners’ House – National Bank Pavilion of Pointe-à-Callière Museum on August 30, 2015.
